Updates from Frank

Oeps, we did not realise to get so much support. We almost blushed!

Thank you all! But now I will go back to work.

As you know Frank raced with a prototype of the Xtra 300 LP (Light version) in SFO. It was promised to be a wolf in sheepskin. When we checked the weight in the POH we found out that the overall weight of this light version was 6kg heavier than D-EZOZ (our own Xtra). So it bit of a disappointment. But there was also good news. The weather was great and the scenery over the bay and Golden Gate bridge were stunning. At the first training day the pilots had to do a flight test for the evaluators of FAA. An interesting test. We had to fly 5 aerobatic manouevres at an altitude above 1000'. The "been there done that" evaluators expected that the flights would take 5 min each. Frank designed a short sequense of 1 manouevre which contained all 5 desired figures. So this flight was over in 1 minute. The qualification of the test was passed and by radio he got the clearance to continue to ground level. Direct after the test he tested the race track, which was positioned in the middle of nowhere country. The wind was blowing like hell and racing between the dancing pylons was exiting. The race track was positioned 10 min flying to the East and we operated from Byron airfield. A very nice collection of airshow airplanes. Mig 15, L 39, Pittses, etc. Compliments for ATC at Oakland airport for the flexibility and anticipation. Great guys.

One of the finest moments of flying in the US has been the film and formation shoot with westcam helicopter filming over the GGBridge. Upside down over Alcatraz, tablecloth of clouds over the bridge, it was a dream............... A gift to fly over a lovely part of mother Earth. It is NOT normal, I realize every moment.

BTW if you ever get a validation, a waiver of license from FAA, do not panic when you do not hear anything for weeks. It was 3 month's after the test we received our ground level airhow waiver by mail.

New kid on the block Michael Goulian shared Frank's plane to get used to the track and racing. Although the difference in body weight, Michael was slower at all heats. :-)
The first race he will fly the MX2 in order to be faster. The advantage of having a good sponsor!
Mike is a nice character and a good pilot. At the picture you see Martin (T69) taking care of our aircraft and his wife Gaby who joined us in SFO.Note the registration. N-202FU :-) Maybe they think the same about bureaucrats?
