Queensday in Holland (April 30) was the opening of the 2010 airshow season. my first display was for the children of the Hoogvliegers foundation. This time host airport was my homebase Teuge. The day started with unfavorable weather but after the lunchbreak it improved and the kids could fly.
It was a pleasure to fly my first show of the season for all the hero\'s of this day.

Lovely to see BIG smiles!
After the Hoogvliegers demo, it was time to fuel and pack in order to leave for Strassbourg. At Kehl EDSK the CARF organisation held their model meeting.
The journey to Kehl was a kind of adventurous. In the Ramstein area I had to turn back and circumnavigate the military base. Interesting that the weather they gave me had nothing to do with reality.
Much worse that they reported :-(
Arrival at Kehl was nice, never seen so many Storchs before. Who says aeroplanes disturb birds?
Kehl, A great little show with super displays of remote controlled aeroplanes and helicopters. (I have been around at airshows for more than 25 years but here I saw completely new things)
The weather forecast for the Sunday made me fly the display earlier than planned. After the demo we were helped by the local club members to re-fuel and prepare for the return flight.
We took off in pooring rain and turned to Karlsruhe CTR where the visability was 3 km\'s. Not much if you fly through at 300 km/h.
Langen radar was super helpfull and guided us through the windows of the bad weather. The Rhine valley near Bingen was CAVOK and we enjoyed the visabilities. The route took us west of Frankfurt, Koblenz Nörvenich via Aachen to Eindhoven. Between Volkel and Weeze we already saw a big thunderstorm in the North.
This little friend made me hold over Emmerich for more than 15 minutes. The weather was not to good, so time to consider an alternate airport. We were just north of Weeze so it would be a good alternate. Finally I discovered a nice light hole and shot through and we made our way to Teuge. By radio I asked to open the hangar door, so we stayed dry .......:-)
A nice cool glass of beer, bitterballen en home for a warm bath.
The 2010 seaso has officially been opened. Wednesday flying in Hometown Arnhem, between the bridges. (14:00-16:00 hrs) |
