Super weather conditions in Porto. Unfortunately lots of confision saturday night as the news came through the race committee decided that due to high G load, Paul Bonhomme was disqualified.
Bonhomme exeeded the 12 G limit for more that 0.6 seconds, and this is more than the rule allowes.
Unfortunately the impact of this rule is much bigger that it should be.
One of the good things in aviation is good and safe rules. BUT, sometime people make rules which are not working. For instance, the track DESIGN could avoid over-G-penalties.
The chicane is a perfect exemple of a speed reducing measure.
To explain simply; If the middle pylon of the chicane is displaced 25 meter to the left it is not possible to fly through with extreme speeds. And this again means that you cannot pull over-G\'s.
Another fair and safe way to avoid discussions about rules is implenting the maximum allowed (legal Vne Never Exceed speed) at the start gate.
So the question is........will Hannes benefit from a DQ from Bonhomme?
